“When we talk about another flu pandemic happening, its not a matter of if but when…”
The Netflix Original Docuseries ‘Pandemic: How to Prevent an Outbreak’ begins with Dr. Dennis Carrol who has worked as a director with the Federal Agency for International Development (USAID) for more than a decade, leading the way. The series also makes us question the very fundamentals of a Pandemic.
Today, when the new COVID-19 virus has spread all over, with 16, 231 deaths already, and counting; the release date (22 February) of the series is an uncanny reminder to how eerily close we were to a global pandemic.
The Zero Point Zero Production explores the nature of viruses like Influenza, Ebola, and Measles with great detail, and a lot of drama.
The real-life heroes of this story are scientists, doctors, politicians and individuals who work day and night to curb the spread of highly contagious viral infections currently present and the ones that might emerge in the future. We get a sneak-peak in Dr. Sayra Madad’s life, the Director of System Special Pathogen Program in New York who raises her 2 sons and is working persistently to make New York a safe city for her daughter.
We see the journey of two young scientists, Jake Glanville and Sarah Ives on their way to creating a flu-shot for the future. We explore the struggles faced by doctors working in a small county, WHO officials trying their best to build trust and spread awareness in Ebola-infected regions and the situation of over-populated cities like Jaipur during the outbreak of swine flu. The sheer grit, passion, and kindness among these amazing individuals make you tear up and smile at the same time.
The beautifully shot documentary is an informative and yet engaging experience that will make you appreciate, question and wonder if the ‘when’ Dr. Carrol takes about is now. Watch the Netflix Original docuseries – ‘Pandemic: How to Prevent an Outbreak’ today on Netflix, and learn to adapt to the changing world during the ongoing pandemic.
Stay home and stay safe, but don’t forget to be happy though 😊
